Email Filters in Agent

Filters in Agent are a little more complex than other news readers. This allows for a VERY versatile and powerful filtering system. For a full description of syntax (the format used to create the filters) see the help file. For our example, we will keep the filter VERY simple.

Window Menu
  • Click on the Window menu, then choose Open Email Filters.

    Filter Window

  • Agent support two types of filters:
    • Kill Filters- These allow you to move or delete a message.
    • Watch filters- These allow you to "watch" or "follow" a message thread based on the filter you create.
We will select the Kill Filter for our demonstration. Click on the Filter menu, then choose Add Kill Filter.

    Add Filter

  • The Filter Expression box is where you type the instructions for the filter. In this example anything with a subject containing the word spam will be immediately deleted. We accomplished this by putting a dot next to Delete under the Kill Action section on the left.
  • Click OK.

    Filter Window

  • You will be taken back to the list of filters. You should be able to see the new filter we just created.

Agent is now setup with your very first filter! As you become more familiar with filters, you can create a filter to do just about anything!
